On June 1, 2017, the international energy company Enel S.p.A. and the national operator of energy networks in Russia PJSC "Rosseti" signed a Memorandum of understanding aimed at cooperation in the sphere of studying the possibilities of applying innovative solutions in the field of Smart Grids. The Memorandum was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) by CEO of Enel, Francesco Starace, and the Director General of PJSC "Rosseti" Oleg Budargin.
Under this Memorandum both Parties intend to explore opportunities of applying innovative solutions for Smart Grids in Russia.
The Memorandum of understanding signed for a 2-year period is aimed at strengthening cooperation between Enel and PJSC "Rosseti" to achieve common strategic goals. The Agreement involves the exchange of information, best practices and advanced technologies designated in the Memorandum spheres, such as the creation of a smart metering system and the network digitalization.
Enel and PJSC "Rosseti" plans to exchange the best solutions in the field of construction, modernization and maintenance of power grid facilities, aimed at improving and enhancing efficiency, reliability and security of grid infrastructure. The companies will also consider the possibility of making the joint pilot project on creation of intelligent cluster.
Oleg Budargin noted that the introduction of smart metering devices will allow to build the architecture of the energy system of the future, to develop new services, to reduce power losses, to optimize costs. This is important from the point of view of work with consumers, who become an active part of the system and express interest in increasing its own efficiency of energy consumption and efficiency of the system.
