Russia, Armenia, Iran: New Impetus for Cooperation

Russia, Armenia, Iran: New Impetus for Cooperation 23.12.2015
On December 23, 2015, Yerevan hosted a quadripartite meeting of energy ministers from Armenia (Ervand Zakharyan), Iran (Hamid Chitchian), Georgia (Kakhaber Kaladze) and the head of Rosseti PJSC Oleg Budargin.

The meeting was devoted to prospects for the joint operation of the energy systems of Russia, Georgia, Armenia and Iran. In the view of all participants, this will make it possible to increase the power flow of electrical energy, create favorable conditions for intersystemic transit and trade, and increase reliability and energy safety.

Iran and Armenia, Georgia and Russia, have already synchronized their systems; now it is time to synchronize all four systems.

After the meeting, the parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The parties intend to study technical and normative regulations for the further synchronization of electrical grids.

Oleg Budargin noted that the energy corridor Russia-Georgia-Armenia-Iran will serve as a strategic route for power flow between the participating countries. He said that implementing the memorandum will mark another important step in the development of integration processes.
