Russian Grids has completed constructing the 500 kV Boguchanskaya Hydro Power Plant to Ozernaya power lines between Krasnoyarsk Krai and Irkutsk Oblast. The new power lines stretch for 330km and will be able to handle a flow of up to 2,000MW between the regions thereby increasing the reliability of the power outputted from the Boguchanskaya Hydro Power Plant into the integrated Siberian power grids.
The project operator was the Federal Grid Company Unified Russian Energy System OJSC, a subsidiary of Russian Grids. A total of 10 billion roubles were invested in constructing these power lines.
According to the General Director at Siberian Main Power Lines, a branch of the Federal Grid Company, Samuil Zilberman, the new power lines were constructed in difficult to reach locations of Nizhneye Priangarye in taiga and swamp regions. The General Director stated, “To erect pillars in areas like these, we needed not only the right knowledge and skills, but we also had to use cutting edge technology like, for example, unconventional tower footing on screw-piles. Thanks to a smooth partnership with our contractors, we were able to complete this construction of important power lines on time”.
During the construction of the power lines in the Taishetskiy District of Irkutsk Oblast as well as the Kodinskiy and Boguchanskiy Districts of Krasnoyarsk Oblast, workers installed a total of 849 steel pillars with enhanced corrosion protection. New cells have been installed at the 500 kV Ozernaya substation to connect the power lines; the station also received a new 180 MVAr 500 kV controlled shunt reactor, which will automatically regulate the level of electricity in the network.
For the Boguchanskaya Hydro Power Plant to output the necessary amount of power, new power grids were built in Nizhneye Priangarye with a voltage of 220 kV which included over 300km of power lines, the Priangarskaya substation and the BoGES metal clad switchgear. Furthermore, the Federal Grid Company Unified Russian Energy System was overseeing operations as a technical agent and thus controlled the construction of the 500 kW Angara substation, two 500 kV BoGES-Angara power lines and one 500 kV Angara-Kamala power line, which have already been commissioned. At the present time, the Federal Grid Company is supervising the construction of the 500 kV Angara-Ozernaya power line.
